MADE IN ITALY

THE ART OF ITALIAN SHOEMAKING

The first step into making shoes, is creating a last which is the wood form that gives the shoe its shape and character. Together with the last maker a wood sculpture is created by hand. Meet Francesco, he's only been doing this for over 30 years!

CREATING THE PATTERN

The shoe design is sketched onto the last by the Modellista, and reviewed together with the designer...that would be me! Once the pattern is created, it is sent to the sample room to be cut and stitched into an upper.

MATERIALS AND COLORS

Now the fun part really begins, the colors and materials are selected, then cut and sewn together bringing your shoes to life! We work with the finest Italian tanneries and component suppliers, you can see and feel the difference.

STITCHING AND LASTING

There are over 200 steps involved in creating a pair of shoes, from cutting the upper, adding reinforcements, stitching, lasting, applying the heel, outsole, insole and believe it or not putting them into a special 'oven' for the leather and components to set.

THE UPPERS BECOME SHOES

During each step of the process, all the components and leathers are inspected in the factory before they are cut and prepared. The true art of shoe making comes to life through the hands of the Italian artisans, who skillfully piece it together. They've been doing this for centuries.
